This exciting meet-up of activists and experts in the fields of digitalization and environmental sustainability in Berlin attracted almost 1.500 people. We were also there and enjoyed the discussion on how digitalization can contribute to the sustainable transformation of society and the economy.

Bits & Bäume [Bits & Trees] is a unique 2-day-conference for open networking held in Berlin and organized by 10 institutions active in the fields of environment, technology and development. The conference sets out to bring together environmental and digital rights activists to “learn from each other, recognize the commonalities of their utopias and implement them with new force!”

With a dedicated program of lectures, discussions, workshops and hackathons (overview of the program) the organizers tackle the question of how digitalization can contribute to the sustainable transformation of society and the economy. The aim here is to harvest potentials and knowledge from both movements and combine it, ideally, to something more powerful. Keyphrase for Bits & Bäume is Sustainable Digitalization. What this means and how this can be achieved will be discussed on November 17-18, 2018 at the Technical University Berlin. The organizers want to open the conference to everybody who is interested and have created a pricing policy to mirror this goal. Therefore, there is no excuse not to be a part of this great experiment.
